The Transmission Operations Engineering (Engineer Associate – Engineer) position is responsible to be a team member that provides real-time reliability support and operational planning support. This position in Corpus Christi will have responsibilities for both the ERCOT and SPP footprint. The position requires an engaged individual that shows capability of learning technical skills and partake in collaborative discussions.

Duties of the engineer include but are not limited to the following:

  • Daily tasks such as outage approvals, next day studies, weekly analysis, and ensure coverage over critical outage periods.

  • Assist in the development of operational settings – reclosing setting, cap bank settings, and UFLS settings.

  • Be engaged in ERCOT and SPP activities to increase awareness of industry changes/impacts.

  • Perform planning and engineering activities, and achieve technical goals such as inadequate protection studies and long term operational studies.

  • Support Compliance efforts for both ERCOT and SPP footprints.

  • Participate and document best practices, processes, and operational guides.

  • Includes developing operational emergency plans involving Blackstart and capacity deficiency.

  • Effectively coordinate needs and support of planning groups and other engineering, operations, construction and maintenance groups engaged in or affected by capital improvements.

Technical expertise: Possesses technical knowledge of power flow concepts and familiarity with power flow tools such as PSS/E, ALSTOM, MUST and/or TARA is required. Knowledge of AEP Transmission East and/or West footprint is a plus.

Problem solving and initiative: Possesses ability to participate in initiatives, through collaborative solutions, improve processes for increasing efficiency and reliability awareness.

Communication skills: Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing; assists in the preparation of technical reports and papers; listens to and understands instructions, and requests clarification as required. Interpersonal skills: demonstrates the ability to be a team player; relates to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner.

Electrical Engineering degree is preferred for these positions.

Engineer Associate-

This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)*; Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.

Engineer-

Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)*; Individuals with a Master’s or Doctorate degree in engineering may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

Engineer Senior -

Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)*; Individuals with a Master's or Doctorate degree in engineering may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

*Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program
