Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Information Technology Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Advanced Technology Portfolio Owner.

  • Architecture

  • Decide enterprise architecture standards and policies; approve major infrastructure decisions to ensure compliance, business value, and total cost of ownership

  • Develop solution architecture strategy and standards; gather input from infrastructure designers and data and security architects to refine the strategy and standards

  • Revise enterprise architecture based on input and feedback from stakeholders

  • Develop frameworks to evaluate new technology requests that fall outside of standards that can be justified by Business value and TCO

  • Tech strategy & emerging platforms

  • Create and decide integrated technology strategy and roadmap

  • Create and decide plans for upgrading, modernizing, and inserting new technology

  • Provide input to the IS Strategy team in Strategy and Performance to incorporate technology strategy into overall IS strategy

  • Explore new ideas on emerging platforms based on customer needs and provide input to Enterprise Architecture to adjust standards as needed

  • Provide SWAT support for special projects in the organization

  • Innovation

  • Explore new technology and identify adoption opportunities for Toyota

  • Lead Tech Strategy team to assess strategic impact of new tech

  • Decide and develop new technology platforms and services for Toyota enterprise

  • Oversee new technology handoffs to Services group (or other) to scale and run

  • Participate in industry consortium and forums to lead technology innovation and advance Toyota’s technical capability/image

  • Portfolio Enablement

  • Oversee portfolio enablement group, which provides business management support to the rest of the portfolio

  • Technology

  • Leverages deep experience and knowledge to develop and promote architecture standards/frameworks while maintaining a multi-year vision of future technology and skill needs

  • Designs and delivers frameworks to address increasing market complexity

  • Leads a team designed to be on the forefront of change to deliver innovative technology solutions

  • Evaluates and sets direction on emerging technologies to enhance IT flexibility to support business needs

  • Sets direction that ensures business agility can meet the needs of customers and dealers

  • Ensures that the org maintains an understanding of cutting-edge technology and its applicability to TMNA, regional and global systems

  • Develops strategy and leads a team that provides the tools to turn disparate data into actionable information for decision making by the business customer

What you’ll be doing

The architecture portfolio owner will be responsible for 30 team members, 100 contract architects and 4 direct reports and report to the CTO. Their primary responsibility will be to oversee enterprise architecture, technology strategy, emerging platforms and innovation within IS.

What you bring

  • 15 plus years of experience in information technology including 10 years’ experience in architecture/tech strategy/innovation; 5 plus years technical leadership experience

  • Strong thought Leadership

  • Deep understanding of software engineering, functional programming, and statistics

  • Recent experience delivering AI, Big Data, or Emerging Technology to Cloud

  • Strong understanding and experience with API Management, AWS, Serverless, Kubernetes, GRPC, and IoT

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience expected

  • Strong communication and leadership skills, particular strength communicating between technology teams

  • Strategic thinker, with seasoned change management skills

  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with wide variety of teams/ leaders

  • Strong understanding of the technology needs of the organization and trends within the wider IT space

  • Ability to understand total cost of ownership and cost to profitability models

  • Ability to conceptualize the big picture and break it down into actionable work items

  • Ability to understand tradeoffs and execute good judgement in balancing competing priorities

  • Experience working in a practical Agile development environment

  • Experience identifying reasonable constraints and adapting to them

  • Can clearly articulate the benefits between one programming language versus another through prior hands on experience

  • Building out architecture capabilities, including significant expansion of the solution architecture org

  • Creating a standards team within the arch org (separate from tech strategy) to define arch standards and escalation policies
