Responsibilities

The candidate selected for this position serves as the Primary Care Mental Health Integration Clinical a Team Leader Dallas. The position has broad program and operational management responsibilities for a mental health outpatient team that provides specialized professional mental health services of considerable scope, size and complexity to Veteran living with mental health illness. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administrative supervision of social workers, nurses, psychologists and peer specialists.
  • Performing mental health interventions, assessments, suicide risk assessments, assists with discharge planning, and implementation of therapeutic milieu and modalities.
  • Collecting data, writes reports, presents information orally and in writing, participates and leads in accreditation survey processes, works collaboratively with unit leadership of other disciplines and manages staff assigned to the Mental Health Clinic. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am. - 4:30 pm. Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association will be required before an appointment can be given.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g of the Qualification Standards.)

Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may notbe substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work.

Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website.

Preferred Experience: Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. They may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. At this grade, Social Worker Program Coordinators manage the administrative and clinical aspects of a major specialty treatment program, such as PTSD, Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SAW), Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC), etc., or a combination of programs located at one facility or multiple divisions of a facility. They have responsibility for coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services provided, and admission criteria for the program. They may also supervise employees assigned to the program.

Applicants with extensive mental health clinical experience, outpatient clinical practice, management of multidisciplinary staff, data collection and presentation, and participation in accreditation processes preferred.

Experience, Education and Licensure. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator or manager must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. They may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. In-depth knowledge of the program coordinated, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. 2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. 3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. 4. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program area(s). 5. Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice.
