Job Description

The IT Shared Services Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Systems Converged Lead to join our team. This position performs highly complex (senior-level) computer systems analysis work. Work involves planning and analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems that concentrates on automation to improve existing systems and to strategically move toward a converged environment. May assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide for 2nd-tier customer support for supported systems by developing and overseeing process for communicating with customers, troubleshooting, resolving and documenting issues and solutions.
  • Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan installation of a new system or modification of an existing system.
  • Coordinate installation, configuration or update of software and hardware systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with software and hardware systems.
  • Create and follow procedural documentation in support of the installation and maintenance of software and hardware systems.
  • Research and implement all possible solutions that are more efficient.
  • Develop processes to automate routine tasks or solve problems.
  • Communicate and coordinate maintenance of software and hardware systems with other technical teams.
  • Monitor system health and performance and take action to resolve issues.
  • Work with vendor support staff to ensure software and hardware systems are available and compliant with licensing.
  • Analyze, develop and/or recommend and implement strategies for the integrations and automation of software systems.
  • Oversee daily activities of the team by doing supervisory and project management work as required.
  • Acts as subject matter expert on behalf of supported services.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree with coursework in computing or information systems and five years of progressively responsible computer programming and analysis experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Red Hat and Windows Operating systems as well as VMWare and Active Directory
  • Knowledge of different types of databases (ex. Oracle, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, etc.)
  • Experience in LDAP
  • Experience in system and application monitoring tools such as Zabbix, SCOM, etc.
  • Experience with PowerShell
  • Experience with automation, integration and configuration tools such as Jenkins, Salt and Puppet
  • Experience with Java, HTML, scripting, Python, C, C++ and other programming languages
