About the Position:Works under general supervision of the Director in administering the residency program by providing technical and administrative support in the areas of accreditation, program requirements and academic records. The overall objectives and priorities of the work and assists the employee with unusual situations which do not have clear precedents. Works independently in planning and carrying out the day-to-day functions of the residency program, using experience to solve problems and handle unusual occurrences.

Responsibilities
  • Provides technical, administrative, clerical, and office automation support to Resident and Fellowship Programs.
  • Assists in administering the residency program by providing technical and administrative support in the areas of accreditation, program requirements, and academic records.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal program, Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) resident evaluation requirements.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion of all evaluations and record keeping associated with the process to include analysis of block rotation issues affecting the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency/Fellowship Program.
  • Utilizes practical knowledge of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program to respond to inquiries from residency candidates and provide information relevant to the program, such as rotation availability and scheduling information.
  • Maintains academic records for students; independently researches and resolves discrepancies in information or missing data.
  • Maintains current knowledge on program accreditation requirements and notifies appropriate individuals/offices of changes that affect accreditation.
  • Provides guidance in planning and coordinating Continuing Medical Education programs, resident didactic sessions, Executive Committee and meetings in accordance with standards prescribed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
  • Establishes annual budget proposal for the training programs.
  • Maintains budget data and tracks use of funds.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience which includes providing a variety of clerical, office automation, maintaining residency student records and typing support; familiar with guidelines concerning medical residency programs to coordinate resident rotation, arrange travel, coordinate interviews, to ensure program compliance; experience with the accreditation council for graduate medical education and the policies and procedure to maintain residency program accreditation; assisting with purchase requests for automated equipment, maintaining financial records, and monitoring expenditures.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
