Flight Controls Software Engineer

Bell is seeking a self-motivated Flight Controls Software Engineer to join Bell’s Innovation Team and support the development of new and novel products and platforms. The systems requirements associated with the integration of vehicles in urban environments, including Air Taxi and Product transportation/delivery are challenging and exciting. The emerging concept vehicles provide opportunities for systems engineering, simulation and test of configurations and technologies that will shape the future of aviation. This position will be part of a diverse team of engineers capable of executing in a fast-paced environment.

The Flight Control Software Engineer is responsible for (but not limited to) supporting the following:

  • Design and test of Flight Control Systems (FCS) with embedded DO-178 software and DO-254 complex hardware, including Fly-By-Wire Flight Control Systems.

  • Software design, requirements management, systems specifications, interface management, system safety assessment, verification and validation testing in desktop simulation environment and systems integration labs, aircraft flight test, and aircraft/system qualification and certification.

  • Participation in development of subsystems architecture, redundancy management, electronic hardware design and integration, and actuator design and integration.

  • Development of air vehicle flight control laws, actuation controls, device controllers and other aircraft control logic implementations.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering. Applied Sciences (Physics) Mechanical Engineering may be considered with applicable embedded control systems development experience.

  • Master’s Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentioned above is suggested.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience at all levels will be considered with a minimum of 2 years specific experience with flight controls, software, or avionics, or development, and testing.

  • Familiarity with most or all of: RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-178, RTCA DO-254, SAE ARP4754A, SAE ARP4761, 14 CFR Part 27 and Part 29 for commercial and military qualification and certification of aircraft systems.

  • Experience with most or all of the following Primary Development Environment tools, or equivalent:

  • MathWorks MATLAB / Simulink with Stateflow and Embedded Coder

  • C/C code

  • C# test scripts

  • Git

  • Embedded Software Development environments

  • Protocol and network analyzers
