The Mass Properties Engineer at Bell is responsible for the development and maintenance of Mass Properties and center of gravity data. The Mass Properties Engineer will evaluate developing and mature designs to determine their impact on the air vehicle following industry, military and Bell best practices. The Mass Properties Engineer will work closely with design disciplines through all phases of aircraft and trade study execution. This position is based at Bell’s Ft. Worth, TX headquarters facility.
Lead and document Mass Properties analysis as part of aircraft development activities
Support major project updates and initial development activities
Work with design engineers to capture mass properties data and maintain the mass properties database
Provide regular updates to design and program management regarding weight and cg status
Provide reporting to customers using industry and military standard formats
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline is required.
Minimum of 3 years experience in Mass Properties Engineering or related engineering discipline is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Demonstrated Communication Skills needed to brief top-level management, customers and/or large groups on an occasional-to-frequent basis
Candidates must be eligible to obtain Secret Security Clearance
This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. Knowledge of rotary aircraft systems/sub-systems.
Prior experience maintaining rotary or tiltrotor aircraft.
Previous experience using mechanical design tools such as various CAD software (CATIA or UG preferred).
Familiarity and basic proficiency with engineering design definition including 2D/3D modelling, requirement capture, GD&T requirements, specification development and PLM software to drive product lifecycle such as ENOVIA/DOORS.
Experience with calculation of weight, balance and inertias throughout design life cycle using 2D/3D drawing, work statements, specifications, general arrangements and pictures.
Demonstrated ability to: manage weight threats/opportunities and detail design IPT level weight control, develop Mass Properties Plans and Procedures including weight & center of gravity final measurement processes.
Knowledge of maintaining mass properties databases and database requirements definition to improve reporting and response times.
Experience in providing vendors with weight requirements/allocations as well as monitoring and supporting vendors in their weight control goals.
Ability to: generate, collect, evaluate and prioritize weight saving ideas; produce complete mass distribution data for loads generating, plan measurement programs to verify the mass properties according to the customer needs.
Working knowledge in a related discipline (Airframe, Avionics, Propulsion, Hydraulics, etc.).
