Dowhas an exciting opportunity for aSeniorProduction Engineerfor the Voranol/Specialty Polyurethane Chemicals (Voranol/SPC) facility located at Texas Operations inFreeport, Texas. The Voranol/SPC facility is an integral part of the Dow Polyurethanes business for the manufacturing of polyether polyols. The Production Engineer will serve as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical skills to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems, and enable safe and efficient production of low cost, quality Polyols products which maximize value to the business. The Senior Production Engineer works as a team of engineers, in partnership with Operations, Maintenance and EHS to ensure critical business objectives are met.
Responsibilities / Duties
Understand the process technology, equipment, and control strategies for all units. Become the technical expert for assigned areas of the plants. This includes chemistry, process control, piping, equipment, instrumentation, and analytical.
Visibly demonstrate a commitment to EH&S excellence by following the MOC process, BBP observations and interventions, PUP policy, routine plant walkthroughs, leakbusters, housekeeping, review of reactive chemicals incidents, etc.
Work with the various Operations personnel and teams to ensure that the plant and Business goals for assigned areas are met. These goals may include EHS, Asset Utilization, First Pass Prime, Yield, cost reduction, etc.
Apply knowledge of the plant and technology – study historical data, convene with Tech Center or other SMEs, etc. Earn respect and trust of operations team through excellent problem solving skills and technical expertise.
Prevent repeat EH&S, quality, or asset capability incidents by performing Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) when triggers are reached, completing corrective actions on time, and tracking effectiveness of corrective actions.
Lead the development and use of procedures, including ownership/maintenance of existing procedures and documents. Understand why specific procedure steps and precautions are needed and keep a strong field presence to reinforce the importance.
Leads and/or supports introduction of new products, including short-term trials to determine viability of a new product.
Utilize defined Most Effective Technology and challenge/escalate MET application and assumptions when better solutions arise.
Ensure Process Automation is effectively utilized to optimize plant performance.
Partner with the experts to perform advanced troubleshooting and improve operating discipline. Diagnose and document root causes of asset utilization losses in the facility.
Conduct daily review of logbook and alarm history to better understand the plant operation and stay engaged with daily activities. Maintain, own, and review daily KPIs/ trends to ensure optimum performance.
Respond urgently to plant issues and emergencies. Act as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drive implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
Ensure compliance with plant operating permits.
Learn and apply continuous improvement, value creation, and financial acumen skills to accelerate profitability and low cost service of the facility.
Drive high levels of quality, responsiveness and reliability for the customer.
Actively work to maximize plant margin by understanding how much the plant makes per day and based on the product slate.
Pass certification of technical skills, technology, and process safety expertise.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is required.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in plant production or process experience is required.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Six Sigma Certification
Knowledge of Polyols Technology
Knowledge of MOD system
