Technology Specialist, Sr. Superabsorbent Polymers (1804934) -- Freeport, TX
Where the Chemistry Happens
The Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP) unit located at the BASF Verbund site in Freeport, TX, manufactures sodium acrylate polymers that are primarily used in personal hygiene products. Our continuous processes offer exposure to various unit operations within the production facility.
We are seeking a professional like you to support the strategic production functions for the Freeport SAP unit, including process optimization, capital projects, process safety, automation/digitization, technical expertise, and operations support. You will own, complete and document PHA reviews/revalidations and provide technical and leadership support in root cause failure analysis for EHS and plant upset incidents. You will also support maintaining Process Safety and Technology Information (P&IDs, PFDs, plant safety concepts, procedures, PSV documentation).
Your experience will allow you to support the Production Execution Team in the development of plant trials and continuous improvement techniques in data collection and analysis, and by resolving production issues. You will lead and drive OPEX initiatives. You will convey technology-specific information through plant troubleshooting and technical training for the local operations team. In addition, you will collaborate with Global Technology personnel on process optimization, troubleshooting, technical exchanges, and safety concepts.
Formula for Success
Leveraging your educational background in an Engineering discipline (preferably Chemical) or Chemistry, and your professional experience in a chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment, you will lead continuous technology innovation through identification, evaluation, development, prioritization, and implementation of process and plant modifications (performance and reliability improvements, quality improvements, troubleshooting, debottlenecking of equipment) delivering increased production or reduced fixed and variable costs.
With a strong understanding of process engineering concepts and their applications, you will serve as a manufacturing representative of capital projects providing process and design input through project scope, justification, timing, construction, commissioning, and startup. Additionally, you will lead plant trials, collaborating with global technology and R&D.
Your knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and TCEQ standards and regulations will enable you to coordinate, document, and complete PHAs, PSSRs, Plant Cleansheets/Revalidations, Safety Concepts, and MOCs. You will collaborate with technology and safety groups to meet process safety and environmental requirements. Additionally, you will provide technical support for MOC risk assessments to ensure changes do not jeopardize plant safety.
Your knowledge of DCS and advanced process control systems will provide expertise in the application of PIMS and drive automation/digitization to improve effectiveness of the production technology. You will support alarm management and troubleshooting for DCS/SIS systems, including recommending control and interlock strategy development/implementation.
