Permian Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. At year-end 2020, the company held about 750 thousand net acres across the basin, with net production of 85 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day. ConocoPhillips is committed to being an innovative and environmentally responsible operator, and the new technologies and practices that it is using in this area exemplify that.

In January 2021, ConocoPhillips completed the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc., greatly expanding the company’s position in the Permian Basin. The addition of 550,000 net acres complements the company’s position in the Delaware and Midland Basins and created a sizeable Permian presence.

Description

If you are selected for as the I&E Specialist, you will provide the I&E and Measurement departments with day-to-day troubleshooting and support for SCADA field hardware, communications, and related software. You will work closely with vendors, contractors, and operations field staff on the direct support of all aspects of field SCADA equipment.

This is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Following all applicable DOT and OSHA regulations, and safety policies and procedures

  • Performing all duties of this position with a focus on safety, environmental protection and regulatory compliance

  • Performing installation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of 480v/120v equipment

  • Performing and providing technical support for installation, calibration, maintenance, and repairs of instrumentation and electrical equipment

  • Performing planned maintenance checks and calibration and timely submits appropriate reports

  • Building and responding to SAP notifications and process work orders

  • Maintaining current and accurate documentation of maintenance activities

  • Maintaining technical and administrative records, including prints and project reports

  • Minimizing downtime and unsafe conditions by performing preventative and predictive maintenance

  • Initiating Management of Change requests for proposed changes to equipment, instrumentation and programs

  • Assisting supervisors in changing technology/budget requirements

  • Pursuing cost reduction opportunities

  • Be on call, responding to emergencies and maintain emergency response preparedness

  • Driving collaboration throughout the area of responsibility

  • Supervising, directing and training contract crews

  • Active involvement in Safety Action Plans

  • Completing and maintaining required safety/regulatory training (CBT)

Qualifications:

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • 5 years Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming experience

  • 3 years experience as an I&E technician in the oil and gas industry

  • Current/valid driver's license

  • Advanced level of technical knowledge and training to maintain instrument and electrical equipment

  • Intermediate level of knowledge with reading and understanding electrical drawings (i.e., P&ID's, C&E's)

  • Intermediate level of knowledge with low and medium voltage circuits

  • Willing and able to perform/comply with the following(with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Climb various ladders and stairs to perform maintenance on equipment. The ladders and stairs range up to 50 feet in height

  • Raise and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Walk, stand, stoop, sit, climb, and carry material daily on even and uneven terrain

  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions

  • Work alone a high percentage of the time

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • To be on call

  • Work unscheduled overtime

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree in Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) or related degree field

  • 5 years experience as an I&E technician in the oil and gas industry

  • SCADA experience

  • Telecom experience

  • Experience with Allen Bradley products, (i.e., PLC's, HMI's, drives, etc)

  • Proficient computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Windows and Microsoft office products

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Orientation toward continuous process improvement

  • Actively communicates and takes time to safely perform work to protect our people and environment

  • Transmits information so it is received and understood in the way it was intended

  • Manages tasks to effectively and expertly complete work responsibilities of self and others
