Control Systems Engineer – SIS Functional Safety

Technical resource for the control systems and process automation field specifically related to SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) Functional Safety (ANSI/ISA-84 and IEC 61511 - Functional Safety: Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry Sector)
Support P&ID development; help maintain the P&ID’s through the course of each project phase
Support development of the Instrument Index and I/O List; help maintain the Instrument Index and I/O List through the course of each project phase
Support development of material / labor TIC and engineering / design effort hour cost estimates
Develop SIS Functional Safety scope of work documents
Support incorporation of SIS Functional Safety content into mechanical equipment vendor packages
Develop and/or support development of all SIS Functional Safety and SIS related deliverables.
Participation and facilitation of Functional Safety Assessment, LOPA/SIL Assignment Review Meetings
Provide technical direction for selection of items to be specified, ensure compliance with client requirements and standards, check specification / requisition packages prepared by others
Prepare engineering specification and requisition packages for inquiry and purchase
Prepare technical bid evaluations and make recommendations for purchase
Interface with suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications
Review vendor data to assure specifications and project requirements are met
BS or MS in engineering discipline; a current valid Functional Safety competency certificate or certification from one of the three major providers (CFSE, ISA, TÜV) required; PE license or equivalent preferred; CSFE expert is certification preferred.
10 years of experience working capital projects in the oil & gas, refinery or petrochemical industries
Knowledge of working at and with Burner Management Systems Integration providers is preferred including extensive working knowledge of PLC’s
Current knowledge of EPC work processes and scope/deliverables for the various project phases; business acumen for lump sum and cost plus projects
Broad knowledge of the SIS Functional Safety field including ANSI/ISA-84 and IEC 61508 / 61511; as well as the application, specification and installation of Safety Instrumented Systems
Proficient with the development of all SIS Functional Safety and SIS related deliverables; including Functional Safety Plans, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) calculations, SIF Lists, SIF response time calculations, SIL verification calculations, test plans, Safety Requirements Specifications, I/O Lists, Range/Alarm/Trip/Shutdown schedules, system block diagrams, cause/effect logic matrix, function block (Boolean) diagrams, logic narratives, SIS hardware/software/configuration specs, etc.
Experience participating in Functional Safety Assessment, LOPA/SIL Assignment Review Meetings as well as the facilitation of these meetings
Proficient with at least one SIL verification calculation software tool
Thorough understanding of P&ID symbology and presentation techniques
Experience in various phases of vendor selection and technical negotiation
Experience in SIS hardware inspection, FAT, SAT, loop checks, start-up and commissioning
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
Database Instrumentation tools experience preferred (SPI/Intools, ABE (Aspen Basic Engineering), Aveva, Comos, others).

Able to perform job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating facility
May require travel to national and international jobsites and supplier locations
