POSITION OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The General Services Department is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and customer focused candidate to perform a variety of manual, labor intensive, general maintenance and repair activities. Operates hand and power tools and equipment, which may include facility cleaning equipment. Monitors inventory control. Assists with relocating personnel staff offices, equipment and supplies. Pickup and deliver debris and surplus to various locations. Operates vehicles to and from work locations. Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required.

MUST PASS A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Very fundamental levels of the ability to read, write and follow simple oral instructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years of formal schooling.

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to candidates with a Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
