Title: Loa/Loation Linguist
Duration: Part-Time/As-Needed, Project based/Non-Telecommute
Schedule: Cyclical position, rotating up to 40 hours per week. Possible travel within the 50 continental states for 30 -120 days.
MVM, Inc., is a professional services firm with decades of experience supporting Government customers. In anticipation of a potential contract award, we are seeking talented Loa/Loatian Linguists.
Our Ideal Candidate
You are an analytic problem solver with a native or near native proficiency in both English and Loa/Loatian. You may not have experience working as a linguist or translator, but you are a fast learner who is eager to dive in and learn how via MVM’s immersive on-the-job training program, which will prepare you to be a Loa/Loatian Linguist for our high-profile law enforcement customers. More importantly, adhering to a strict professional code of ethics with confidentiality and neutrality comes second-nature to you.
What Does a Linguist Do?
Linguists analyze syntax, phonetics, regional slang and colloquial expressions, and semantics from different regions, and provide a clean, objective product in professional English to law enforcement clients.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Our Linguists have four key functions and responsibilities. They:
Translate a variety of complex texts from Loa/Loatian into English
Transcribe pertinent information from audio and video source files
Interpret many different forms of Loa/Loatian, to include slang, formal, and legal discourse
Analyze material and compile data into reports to support our customer’s complex operations
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree or four (4) years of experience in a professional setting
Native or near native oral and written communications skills in both Loa/Loatian and English
Ability to comprehend and translate target language slang and colloquial expressions
Available to work a rotating, flexible schedule
Proficient in MS Office
Active security clearance
Experience as a translator or interpreter
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
