The Boeing Company Mid-Level Systems Engineer - ISS in Houston, Texas

Overview:

  • The International Space Station (ISS) Program is seeking talented and motivated engineers to be Payload Integration Manager (PIM) Systems Engineers.

  • The PIM position is responsible for multi-disciplined integration activities between Payload Developer (PD) organizations and ISS Program (ISSP) teams including systems and software engineering, safety, research and manifest planning, operations, cargo handling, and transportation.

  • Position requires daily interaction with Boeing and NASA ISS subsystem teams; and the ability to excel in a fast paced and high change environment.

  • The PIM will develop and help negotiate unique Payload Integration Agreements (PIAs) defining program-level key agreements, roles, unique Program services, provisioned Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) hardware, and deviations from standard agreements. Additional responsibilities include maintaining standard integration agreements throughout the lifecycle of the specific payload.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities include planning and facilitating payload specific technical interchange meetings between the PD and ISSP, coordinating payload interface requirements; integrating the technical parameters to assure compatibility of program interfaces; helping negotiate programmatic agreements for payload ground handling, launch, and operations within an ISS Increment; maintaining unique payload integration schedules; coordinating identification and closure of payload issues and risks; assisting PDs with the Safety Review process; and potential support to real-time payload operations issue resolution.

  • Additionally, the PIM is responsible to status the ISSP and provide risk based assessments as the PD proceeds through the integration process culminating in both flight and operational readiness.

  • Responsibilities also include the oversight and mentoring of less experienced team members, generation and maintenance of team level desk instructions, support to internal/external quality audits, and support to continuous process and product improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):

  • International Space Station Program (ISSP) experience and competency using ISSP databases desired.

Typical Education / Experience:

Level 3:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
