Job Profile Summary:

Our Gas and Power Trading America's business within bp's Trading and Shipping business has a rare opportunity for a senior Originator to join our team. Based in Houston, our originator will be responsible for delivering deal origination and execution, including agreements and complex structured transactions, providing deal assurance, driving new and existing business growth, leveraging BP's customer base, cross bench offerings and structured products, and building strategic relationships in support of these activities to maximize value.

Job Advert:

REC Originator

  • Strong knowledge of US Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) products, in particular CRS Certified Green-e RECs and California PCC products

  • Extensive existing relationships with developers/owners of projects that are generating and selling RECs in the market, as well as the various purchasers of these REC products – corporate customers, utilities/CCA’s, universities and retail electric providers

  • Proven ability to understand and navigate a robust transaction process – onboarding of new customers through a KYC process; introduction, review and approval from credit; and required legal documentation including ISDA & EEI REC annexes and long-form confirmations

  • Basic understanding of risk and exposure, particularly how the transactions that are being introduced will impact the trading book

  • Ability to build new customer relationships – demonstrated success at networking and initiating new relationships

  • Experience and comfort with cold-calling potential new customers

  • Ability to work within a team based environment – building relationships across the immediate power group and broader BP organization, particularly those teams that are focused on low carbon initiatives

  • Capable of developing and executing a strategy for the development of the different market segments for this business

  • Can identify when a customer or transaction has the potential to lead to larger, more profitable transactions

  • Ability to execute all of the above activities while fully respecting the compliance and regulatory framework at both BP and in the broader industry

Essential Education
