Barrios Technology Systems Administrator (Linux/Solaris) in Houston, Texas

Our long-term client relationship with Boeing Corporation has led to a need for a Systems Administrator (Linux/Solaris) on the Boeing Engineering and Technical Services (BETS-SWS) contract located in Houston, Texas.

BETS-SWS provides support to Boeing’s Houston-based International Space Station (ISS), CST-100, and other site programs under the suite of Boeing Engineering & Technical Services Support (BETS) contracts. The BETS-SWS team designs, develops, tests and certifies avionic and simulation software and hardware; and maintains flight-equivalent labs for development, simulation and test of flight and ground software.

Our primary locations are at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX and the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. The Systems Administrator (Linux/Solaris) will:

  • Perform all activities related to LINUX systems and network administration.

  • Be responsible for all activities related to LINUX system, and network administration.

  • Ensure long-term requirements are included in the overall planning.

  • Be responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration and integrity of the system and software

  • Implement system enhancements that will improve reliability and performance.

  • Perform OS installations, configuration changes to SDIL systems.

  • Perform software installations and configurations.

  • Perform regular and IT Security patching.

  • Support system hardening per benchmark requirements.

  • Evaluate COTS application and provide recommendations based on detailed product analysis.

  • Perform Web administration if required.

  • Maintain System Configuration Management.

  • Provide architecture analysis support.

  • Write and maintain technical and operational engineering documentation.

  • Integrate existing software and platforms.

  • Support system performance monitoring and tuning.

  • Provide anomaly debug and resolution support.

  • Perform system network capacity planning and monitoring.

  • Manage accounts and Licenses.

  • Support application development by monitoring and correcting system defects.

  • Work with peers and other departments concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems.

  • Follow all applicable safety guidelines.

  • Conduct themselves in an ethical manner, following all applicable company policies and customer policies.

  • Continually update technical knowledge and skills.

  • Follow all ISO and CMMI Procedures for product deliveries.

  • Provide accurate and timely written and verbal feedback and status.

  • Complete all mandatory training as assigned.

  • Perform Quality Assurance duties as required.

  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related IT field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of progressive, relevant experience.

– OR –

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related IT field from an accredited college or university and ten (10) years of progressive, relevant experience.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (5-6-7)

  • SUSE Enterprise Linux 11

  • Oracle Solaris 10 and 11

  • RSA Securid Manager and Red Hat PAM software

  • Requesting and installing PKI/Digicert Certificates

  • Creating LINUX VM’s using VMWare Vcenter

Preferences:

  • Familiarity with GlusterFS, Satellite servers, Overland/Tandberg Agility/NeoXL

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.

  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.

  • Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.

  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
