The primary purpose of this position is to inspect the airframe, airframe components/systems and personnel during and after maintenance actions on assigned aircraft.
This is a Temporary position NTE 12 months. The individual selected for this position may be extended without further competition.

- Performs inspections as assigned by the QA supervisor on all aircraft equipment and personnel.
- Inspects and performs operational checks on airframe, engines, airframe components and systems.
- Performs as Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) and Quality Assurance Evaluator (QAE).
- Serves as a system expert and interprets technical orders, drawings and bulletins to assist supervisors and aide repair personnel in accomplishing repairs.
- Participates in investigations of aircraft mishaps, ground mishaps and/or incidents involving damage to aircraft or injury to personnel.
- Supports functional check flight functions. Briefs functional check flight pilots on reason for functional check flight and unusual circumstances involved for each flight.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures. Completes assigned work in a safe manner, using all required safety equipment, established safety rules and regulations with minimal minor violations and no major violations due to employee action.
- Performs weight and balance on T-6, T-38 and T-1A aircraft. Accomplishes weight and balance inventory, weighs aircraft, calculates results and documents all required records.
- Cleans work area and equipment. Performs clean-up duties such as cleaning equipment, straightening, lining up tools and other property in the assigned area, etc.

THE HOURLY RATE FOR THIS POSITION IS $23.37 TO $27.27 PER HOUR
QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE INSPECTOR without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS:Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Basic knowledge in the various trades and craft specialties to evaluate/inspect workmanship, e.g., Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852; Aircraft Electrician, WG-2892; Sheetmetal Mechanic (Aircraft), WG-3806; etc.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematics, diagrams, blue prints and technical orders relating to aircraft maintenance, and methods and procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems to include jet engines, electrical, pneudraulic/hydraulic, egress, landing gear, oxygen/nitrogen, flight controls, munitions and structural maintenance on T-6, T-38, T-1A aircraft.
Knowledge of inspection techniques; ability to inspect and evaluate work performed to ensure technical order compliance, adequacy of repair, quality of workmanship and use of proper methods and parts.
Knowledge of various phases of T-6, T-38, and T-1A aircraft maintenance such as periodic inspections, corrosion control, structural repair, electrical systems, pneudralics, etc., in order to perform inspections and evaluate suggestions and technical order changes.
Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials accounting and security; ability to use tensionmeters, protractors, templates, and gages required to check aircraft for correct rigging procedures.
Knowledge of aircraft weight and balance to accomplish weight and balance inventory and calculate results.
Knowledge of security and safety requirements as outlined in applicable standards, technical orders, regulations and policy statements.
Ability to operate a computer and related equipment.

PHYSICAL EFFORT Considerable standing, walking and climbing in and out of aircraft.
WORKING CONDITIONS Works inside and outside. Outside work may be performed in adverse weather. Some work is performed on the flight line and is subject to loud noises from jet engines. Possible danger from explosives while inspecting canopies and egress systems. Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals. May be required to work uncommon tours of duty.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE:Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
