Assures continuity and on site presence for transportation operations from first shift to second shift. Provides after hours leadership and support to our drivers, the distribution center, and the SSC. Second shift supervisor is responsible for after-hours dispatch, store communications, store services, and promoting a safe operation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

§ Ensures all driver load packages are dispatched, builds strong relationships with drivers through nightly communications, and assists with driver emergencies, time at home, load optimizing, equipment usage, and effective use of the driver management system.

§ Answer and process driver load messages through satellite communications, monitor assignments, report late deliveries, and plan swaps as needed.

§ Complete required reports

§ Answer telephone calls from drivers, vendors, SSC, etc...

§ Resolve load issues involving overweight, paperwork, missing registrations, etc…

§ Maintain a nightly driver issues log and communicate the information to the transportation manager daily.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

§ Knowledge of dedicated transportation operations, FMCSA and DOT regulations.

§ Understanding of Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program.

§ Strong communication (written and verbal), listening, and interpersonal problem solving skills.

§ High attention to detail, strong planning, and organization skills

§ Understands driver logs, hours of service, and vehicle safety inspections

§ Proficient in usage of transportation optimization software to perform routing, tendering, scheduling, and shipment tracking.

§ Ability to function in a high-stress environment

§ Must know US geography

§ Must know MS Office software

Work Experience &/or Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Logistics or equivalent experience

One year in transportation operations for a retailer, manufacturing company, major carrier, or logistics company

One year transportation experience managing at least 20 or more drivers

One year on-site driver management experience preferred
