Position Description:

Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions:

Supervision

  • Recruit, train, directly supervise, develop & evaluate 1 Graduate Assistant for summer conferences

  • Provide direct supervision to summer conferences staff including professional, graduate and undergraduate staff during summer operations

  • Provide indirect supervision and advising to complex staff, complex councils, student organizations and specialty staff

Conference Services

  • Oversee and coordinate summer camps and conferences organization

  • Collaborate with Red Raider Orientation regarding housing, billing and assignments

  • Facilitate contracting processes, customer service and billing for internal and external clients

  • Develop and maintain relationships with campus and community partners

  • Provide oversight of the Off-Campus Housing Fair

  • Manage Conference Programmer database

  • Train and support staff regarding summer operations

Administration

  • Coordinate administrative responsibilities for area functions including but not limited to budget management, residential curriculum, payroll approval, Maxient and student of concern rerporting, and other departmental databases and systems

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Assess and report on effectiveness of area initiatives

On-Call/Crisis Response

  • Serve as a member of the Residence Life Leadership On-Call Team throughout the academic year, university breaks, and summer for a residential population of over 8000 students

  • Be available on a call-to-duty status to assist with residence hall and campus emergencies

  • Communicate appropriately with emergency personnel, University Student Housing, and other campus officials as needed

  • Support professional staff in responding to crises and providing follow-up

Departmental & Campus Support

  • Support departmental and campus initiatives

  • Develop and enhance initiatives within assigned areas to drive the department/institution forward;

  • Chair and/or support departmental committees

Serve as a liaison to campus partners as assigned

Schedule Details:

M-F 8:00-5:00pm + On-Call + Some Night and Weekend Events

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related fields plus 2-4 years post-Master’s, full-time progressive residence hall management experience are strongly preferred. A successful Manager candidate will have had experience supervising student and/or graduate staff, as well as experience with collaborating across campus for divisional and university programs/services.

Pay Statement:

About the Department and/or College:

The Manager of Conference Services is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the summer camps and conferences program and the off-campus housing fair. The Manager has the primary responsibilities of supervision, administration, on-call/crisis response, departmental and campus support, and summer conferences. The Manager is a member of the Residence Life Leadership Team and is supervised by an Assistant Director in Residence Life. In the event of a vacancy, staff may be asked to fulfill a role or have other job duties added to their position to meet the needs of the students and the department. Every effort will be made to recruit and fill positions as quickly as possible to allow staff to return to the duties for which they originally were hired.
