Corporate Communications Director
The Corporate Communications Director is the Company media spokesperson responsible for leading the Corporate Communications team in the development and execution of comprehensive, business-focused strategies designed to protect and promote the Company’s brand and reputation for quality brands, customer loyalty and financial growth.
Leads the corporate communications team; responsible for media relations activities related to brand launches, executive appointments, financial performance, crisis issues, product recalls, employee layoffs, real estate decisions, litigation, data security, philanthropy, sustainability, supplier sourcing, etc.
Develops strategic media opportunities and ongoing business media relations initiatives that will enhance the Company’s branding efforts and optimize and differentiate JCPenney attributes to ensure consistent brand integration with customers and associates.
Manages and protects the Company's corporate brand through successful issues management, including but not limited to media relations plan development, company statements, Q&A's, press releases, talking points and scripts for executive leaders.
Develops and pitches effective company/brand messaging to drive awareness of JCPenney, working closely with internal business partners as well as supporting Stores who benefit from positive local media exposure.
Develops and maintains close working relationships with national and major news publications and broadcast networks, retail and marketing trades, Internet and social media outlets, and opinion leaders to place and influence relevant editorial coverage of JCPenney brands.
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or Marketing. Master's degree preferred.
10+ Years of Public Relations in an Agency setting or Corporate Communications Department.
Previous knowledge and work in internal communications.
Retail industry a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to be able to communicate the Company’s key brand messages to the media and other external audiences.
