Senior Windows Server Engineer

job summary:

Randstad Technologies has an immediate need with our long-standing end customer, a leading healthcare services firm with offices in Plano TX.

6+ month initial engagement with good opportunity to extend long term. Prefer someone local to DFW that can work onsite in Plano.

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of Windows Server experience

  • 5+ years with Application & Web Servers in a Microsoft-centric environment (including IIS configuration)

  • Recent experience doing Windows Server 2016/2019 builds

  • Recent Hyper V virtualization experience

  • Ability to understand environment dependencies and coordinate work with PM's, Development team & Infrastructure team

  • Proficient with Firewall rules - coordinating changes w/ the security team so new mimics old

  • Proficient with Load balancing - understanding load balancing in place in the current environment / coordinated setup in the new w/ the infra team

  • Some ITSM experience - will need to go thru our ITSM tool for full visibility/audit (this can be done at a product/environment level)

  • strong documentation skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Azure Cloud

  • strong SQL Server experience

  • Scripting skills (Power Shell, etc.)

Responsibilities & Objectives: Customer is migrating from Server 2008 to 2016/19 and from one data center to another. Our current process is very manual - each server build is done upon request, whereas we'd like to take a more holistic approach - looking at the overall product needs and ensuring the environment given back to the product team meets their needs.

  • Focus is on App & Web servers. Our goal is to knock these projects out as quickly as possible while maintaining a stable environment.

  • Prepare server builds (typical build involves 2 app servers, 4 web server, F5 loadbalancing, etc.) for migration to Server 2016/19.

  • Interact with Dev teams, operate within ITIL processes, coordinate with infrastructure teams.

  • Hand off to product team to take over for product installation/setup.
