The primary purpose of this position is to serve on a full-time basis as the Maintenance Support Branch Chief and exercise second-level supervisory technical and managerial authorities over the Maintenance Support Shops, Engine and Test cell, and Electronics Maintenance Shop that provides scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of T-1, T-6, T-37, T-38, and T-43 (ctd.)

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor, WS-8801-13 without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS:Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of ability to supervise and manage a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised to balance manpower, parts, and equipment resources utilizing established maintenance standards to ensure high sortie availability to meet the flying schedule. Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment. One (1) year experience in last three (3) years, executing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in a fast tempo aircraft environment is highly desirable.

  2. Knowledge of aircraft parts, components, subsystems; and tools associated with T-1, T-6, T-37, T-38, or T-43 general aircraft maintenance, electronics, electrical, environmental, engine, pneumatic, pneumatic systems and aircraft egress and recovery issues and systems. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data, instructions, diagrams, specifications, schematics, and technical orders related to T-1, T-6, T-37, T-38, or T-43 aircraft maintenance and repair.

  3. Knowledge of Red X inspection procedures for assigned aircraft and the ability to evaluate work, which has placed aircraft in Red X status.

  4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relations. Ability to effectively coordinate with lateral and subordinate organizations.

  5. Knowledge and ability to identify trends, evaluate causes, and establish corrective procedures for CAMS and forms documentation errors. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions.

  6. Knowledge of tool, equipment programs, material accounting/procurement and security procedures. Knowledge of safety requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, tech orders, and other guidelines.

Physical Effort: Work assignments require moderate physical effort. May lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally handles items greater than 18 kilograms. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Works in a sitting position for extended periods, frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping are required. Occasionally, climbing and working in high places may be required.

Working Conditions: Employee performs work either inside or outside; subject to prevailing weather conditions, noise extremes, slippery or uneven surfaces and working in confined areas. Exposed to the possibility of fire, explosion, electric shock, burns, bruises, cuts, grease, oil, dirt, and fuel. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Working on ladders or scaffolding. Required to wear all safety protection equipment, if required. An annual hearing test is also mandatory.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE:Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
