SUMMARY

Monitor ongoing operations and network performance with management tool set to anticipate network problems. Interpret network management console messages and perform required actions.

DUTIES

Perform second-level (Tier 2 and above) network problem isolation and determination. Respond to problems that are escalated by Level 1 operators.

Initiate corrective action where required with scope of knowledge and authority.

Implement network bypass/recovery/backup procedures as required.

Keep up-to-date on technology being supported by the NOC and ensure familiarity with new technologies to be supported by the NOC in the future.

Use and invoke network diagnostic aids and tools.

Use and provide input to database for problem and inventory control.

Perform testing and maintenance activities of the network as required.

Customer service skills working with customers, employees and carriers.

Stay up to date for regulatory rules related to special circuits and ASR.

Maintains compliance to all relevant OSHA, safety or departmental specific standards as directed by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination and experience.

Valid Driver's License and an insurable driving record.

Bilingual, preferred.

Possesses knowledge of data communications, telecommunications and internetworking technologies.

Knowledge of IP Video, IPTV and VOIP, a plus with the ability to develop that expertise.

At least 3-5 years of internetworking experience with fiber optic transport.

At least 3-5 years of internetworking experience with routers and Ethernet switches.

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with WAN technologies, Frame Relay, SONET, Ethernet, T-Carrier, FTTH and ISDN.

Understanding of TCP/IP--addressing, routing protocols, and transport protocols (UDP and TCP).

Proficient in the use of network management tools, primarily for fault management purposes.

Complete understanding of escalation, problem management and change management procedures.

Prior training in concepts of network and systems operations.

Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills, believing in providing the highest quality of service.

Alert, intelligent and efficient.

Must be flexible with work schedule to support multiple shifts to meet 24x7 operations and holidays, 365 days a year.
