Under general direction, is responsible for performing a variety of technical duties that assist in the development, analysis, and support of Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping applications. Is responsible for working closely with customers, business analysts and team members to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. The position is also responsible for client and server side web development of desktop and web-based (GIS) software applications, spatial and non-spatial RDBMS development and data management. Exercises no supervision. Essential Job Functions: Business Requirements: Works with business customers to validate reporting requirements. Enterprise GIS Solution Development and Testing: Works with business customers to gather reporting requirements and to determine and analyze commonly used reporting queries. Develops test plans for new application functionality. Monitors deviations and escalates issues to more senior GIS Solutions Support team members. Assists in the maintenance of a GIS Solutions Support knowledge management system to capture knowledge and work processes. Data Design and Extraction: Assists in the development of customer requirements for the design and implementation of solutions using GIS functional applications. Develop procedures for the automation of tasks for spatial data maintenance and production of map output using GIS technologies. Enterprise GIS Solution Deployment: Builds and maintains appropriate tables and data, enters appropriate data into the Solutions Support knowledge management system, assists in the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes. Troubleshooting/ Problem Resolution: Responds to Tier I support requests via multiple sources such as phone and email. Enters call data into the tracking system. Interacts with customers in a courteous and professional manner. May be assigned to different shifts to provide coverage for customer and production support. Diagnoses customer problems relying mainly on checklists and training. Documents problem status and resolution and enters into appropriate knowledge management system(s). Escalates issues when necessary. Participates in the testing of GIS functional applications. Data Quality Assurance: Assists in executing test plans for new application functionality. May assist in the development of service level agreements (SLA's). Monitors deviations and escalates issues to more senior GIS Solutions Support team members. Training: Assists in training customers on basic features of application usage; Assists in the development of manual and web enabled systems for user guides, training and documentation. Solutions Development: Defines, develops or modifies GIS software/mapping application modules using disciplined development processes. Documentation: Documents functions and changes to new or modified modules and test activities/results. Installation and Deployment: Assists in the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes. Solution Integration: Integrates solutions with other applications and platforms outside the framework. Participates in integration testing. Solutions Development: Defines, develops or modifies GIS software application modules using disciplined development processes. Documentation: Documents functions and changes to new or modified modules and test activities/results. Quality Assurance: Adheres to quality standards and procedures.
