Zachry Hospitality Hilton Palacio Hotel - Barback, Tex's Sports Bar in San Antonio, Texas


Job Purpose:

To retrieve food orders from the kitchen to the bar, and assist bartender with guests and servers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner. Promotes and documents orders for drinks. Mixes, garnishes and presents drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control. Check guests for proper identification. Detect and act upon guest inebriation as trained. Demonstrate knowledge of liquor laws.

  • Carries trays up to 30lbs. or push wheeled carts to restock coolers.

  • Confirms the accuracy of the order, lift and deliver to servers or guests along with the appropriate condiments.

  • Cleans and maintains tables free of dishes, glasses, baskets, etc.

  • Scoops ice from ice bins, transports to service areas and replenishes ice containers for usage.

  • Maintains proper and adequate set-up of the bar on a daily basis. This includes requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments and produce (fruit).

  • Quietly Retrieves beers from storeroom. Visually checks stock received against written requisitions to ensure order is accurate. Upon delivery to the bar, re-check items with the bartender for completeness. Responsible for maintaining stock, cutting, and storing of all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices and other perishables daily to ensure product quality.

  • Boxes and saves empty liquor bottles as they accumulate for later returns and requisitions.

  • Locks up and stores all beverages, food, and other equipment items.

  • Performs all assigned side work such as replenishing condiments and restocking beer.

  • Performs general cleaning tasks to adhere to health and safety standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of the food and beverage operations including food, beverages, service techniques, and guest interaction.

  • Knowledge of the appropriate table setting and service ware.

  • Ability to communicate in English with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, to collect accurate information, and to resolve problems.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

  • Ability to stand, walk and continuously perform essential job functions on a variety of shifts, for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to listen, and communicate effectively.

  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.

  • Ability to push/pull cart/ table weighing up to 150 lbs.; grasp, lift to waist and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications Standards


High school graduate or equivalent preferred.


Previous food service experience preferred.


Food Handlers Certification required.

TABC required.
