Research Lab Technician – San Antonio, TX

Kelly Services is currently seeking a Research Lab Technician for one of our top clients in San Antonio, TX.

As a Research Lab Technician placed with Kelly Services, you will be responsible for utilizing DOE (Design of Experiments) approach to carry out urethane formulation development, materials preparation and characterization per instruction and support research scientist in developing building materials.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducting design and data analysis with DOE softwares in support of R&D lab projects and plant trials; Utilizing DOE modeling for polymer composite formulation development/optimization and processing window prediction.

  • Preparing chemical solutions according to standard formulas and making liquid/solid blend samples for testing.

  • Reacting raw materials into polyurethane foam. Adjusting formulas to achieve target foam properties.

  • Sectioning and processing polyurethane foams with saws and milling equipment.

  • Setting up, calibrating and operating laboratory instruments such as chemical scales, viscometer, Instron, microscope, FTIR and thermal analysis, etc.

  • Conducting durability and stability tests such as water absorption, moisture movement, UV /thermal stability (CTE).

  • Recording test results in the format of scientific report. Preparing graphs and charts with professional software such as Excel and Origin.

  • Presenting research results on weekly/monthly basis.

  • Plant trial travel to Boral manufacturing sites may be required.

Job Requirements:

  • BS/MS Degree in Statistics/Mathematics, Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Knowledge and previous experience with DOE methods, statistical software (JMP, Minitab, SPSS, Design-Expert, etc.) and data analysis are strongly preferred.

  • Expertise in polymer chemistry, characterization/analysis including rheometry, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, optical and electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, etc.

  • Strong communication, report writing and computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Able to follow instructions and work independently and in teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Dependable and punctual attendance. Arrive to work on time, and ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
