The Technical Laboratory Assistant will participate in activities to support Laboratory Operations.

Primary responsibilities for role:

  • Receiving and handling potentially infectious material (including HIV-1) in a BSL-2 laboratory, accessioning samples, coordinating testing, and processing results.

  • Performs general laboratory duties (cleaning, maintenance, inventory, stocking supplies, receiving supplies).

  • Accurately and consistently complete primary job responsibilities independently and in a timely manner, under supervision.

  • Organizes and assembles data (with appropriate quality checks), generates tables and figures, solves routine problems for diverse procedures, and writes technical documents using Excel/Word/Powerpoint.

  • Conduct routine to complex studies, under guidance.

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related field of study. Experience in microbiology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, virology, viral/nucleic acid assays, and databases are desired. Lab-based research project experience preferred, but not required. A familiarity with GLP requirements (or previous work in a regulated environment i.e. GMP) is preferred, but not required.

Work is performed in a clinical and/or a laboratory environment. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposure to electrical office equipment, chemicals, cold temperatures. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, and gloves. Frequently sits and bends neck for 4-6 hours per day. Walks, bends and twists waist, and squats. Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Moderate lifting of 15-30lbs. with a maximum lift of 45 lbs. May reach above and below shoulder height. Color perception/discrimination, near vision and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Performs a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence.
