The Head Start Teacher provides care and education for children and their families in a child care setting, provides a supportive, safe, and stimulating learning environment and will be knowledgeable of Texas Minimum Standards for Licensing and Head Start Performance Standards.less than/p>less thanp>less thanstrong>ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONSless than/strong>:less than/p>less thanp>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.less than/p>less thanul>less thanli>Maintains a calm, safe classroom and playground that incorporates developmental appropriateness; creates an atmosphere in which the children feel comfortable and secure, reflecting the cultures of all enrolled children.less than/li>less thanli>Ensures the safety of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment and regular practice of fire drills and other emergency procedures.less than/li>less thanli>Works with the Teacher Assistant to develop lesson plans that meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of each child, planning for variations in ability levels and individual interests; reviews other teaching staff's plans.less than/li>less thanli>Ensures that all classroom staff are competent in their abilities to interact appropriately with the children.less than/li>less thanli>Incorporates developmentally appropriate practice according to the Head Start Performance Standards.less than/li>less thanli>Evaluates the teaching techniques of other center staff to ensure that developmentally appropriate practice according to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as well as Community Council of South Central Texas quality Head Start standards are effectively implemented.less than/li>less thanli>Ensures continuity of curriculum and high standards of equality in the classroom; works individually with children who experience difficulty in group activities.less than/li>less thanli>Consistently implements center routines, including hand washing, tooth brushing, eating, napping, and transitioning between activities.less than/li>less thanli>Operates the classroom in compliance with all childcare-licensing standards, paying particular attention to standards prohibiting any form of physical punishment.less than/li>less thanli>Completes annual evaluations for employees supervised; maintains documentation relating to staff competencies.less than/li>less thanli>Models team leadership; ensures that the teamwork concept is upheld and implemented at the center.less than/li>less thanli>Ensures the arrangement of each classroom provides a stimulating, clean, and safe learning environment, incorporating NAEYC standards.less than/li>less thanli>Ensures proper documentation in children's files in all content areas.less than/li>less thanli>Completes Individual Education Plans for each enrolled child; continues the on-going assessment process, maintaining written or computer records on each child.less than/l
