Your Opportunity

Planning & Portfolio Group helps clients achieve their financial goals through proactive wealth management solutions founded on a financial plan and utilizing a rigorous investment methodology. We support four critical businesses including Schwab Private Client, Centralized Planning Group, Wealth Strategies Group and Portfolio Solutions Group. The Planning & Portfolio Group Managed Director role is key to the democratization of our modern wealth management offers driving scale while making it easy to do business with Schwab and deepening client relationships. The Managing Director will report to the Vice President of Planning & Portfolio Group.

What you are good at

  • Lead teams who specialize in delivering a world-class wealth management experience.

  • Motivate and inspire team members with a focus on qualitative behaviors and skill sets, including quality of work, client engagement, relationship management and leadership, professional development, and change management.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships within multiple areas of Schwab, creating an environment where teams are balancing capacity, consistency and competency to maximize efficiency, productivity and scale.

  • Effectively engage with partners across the firm to explain the value proposition of managed investing solutions and planning spectrum, and gain agreement on the best way to work together to achieve the right outcomes.

  • Proactively represent the needs and perspectives of the Planning & Portfolio Group and communicates with leaders to provide updates and support for their organizations.

  • Understand the upcoming needs of the business, identify gaps, and develop plans to effectively execute on priorities.

  • Provide input and recommendations on deployment strategies, ensuring the business needs are elevated and solutions to support those needs are implemented.

What you have

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Series 7, 63 required

  • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ certification preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years in the securities or financial services industry with experience leading a team responsible for business development

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, engage and build consensus with executives, peers and front line employees

  • Recognized leader with a proven track record of high performance

  • Demonstrated success with leading and developing talent

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as keen attention to detail

  • Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills

  • Holds self and others accountable to the highest standards of teamwork, collaboration, and delivering results

  • Strong time management and organization skills required to handle multiple projects and responsibilities

  • Highly comfortable with ambiguity and effective in leading change

  • Strong business acumen, including knowledge and understanding of the Branch Network and Client Service & Support

  • Ability to travel to multiple site locations across the country
